Where it began

Based on previous classical studies — Latin, Ancient Greek and Human Studies — I started working on my own family tree. What began as a personal curiosity became a way of reading history through the lives of ordinary people.

History at the University of Venice

After studying History at the University of Venice, I continued with genealogical research in a professional manner. I have now been doing this for more than twenty years, as a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists.

Twenty years of professional research

Over the years I have come into contact with — and studied the stories of — hundreds of families, in almost all regions of Italy and in neighbouring Istria and Dalmatia. Parish registers, civil records, notarial archives, migration papers: each family tree is reconstructed from documents, carefully and without shortcuts.

Italy, Istria and Dalmatia

Working across these territories — with their layered languages, borders and migrations — taught me how differently genealogy is perceived in different cultures, and how much a family's story is shaped by the places it passed through. I have thoroughly researched the perspective that genealogy offers in different cultures and how it is understood as a field of study.

Walking with descendants

I have accompanied many descendants — mostly North Americans and Australians — on their way to discover the land of their ancestors, organising meetings and paths of knowledge for them: the village, the church, the house, and often the living relatives they never knew they had. Those journeys showed me that finding names is only the beginning; what people are really looking for is a sense of belonging.

The role of Qigong

An essential part of my training is a long journey in learning and teaching Qigong. Its emphasis on breath, presence and gentle attention shapes how every session begins and ends, and it is the reason a Mindful Genealogy session feels unhurried: we look at a family story from a calm, grounded place.

How a Mindful Genealogy session works

A unique approach, designed over many years

The meeting, although almost always conversational, takes place in a quiet atmosphere and includes a brief meditation. Sessions are held online or in person, subject to availability.

  1. Step 1: Breathing and Grounding

A few short breathing exercises to arrive in a calm, focused state — the right frame of mind for looking at your family story with openness.

  2. Step 2: Family Tree Analysis

Together we go through your tree, noticing recurring themes, inheritances and repeating patterns across generations. You can bring a tree you already have, or we build one together.

  3. Step 3: Reflective Practices

You receive personalised suggestions, mindfulness and meditation exercises, and practical next steps — then we close with a short meditation.

Ready to walk? It will be a beautiful journey — a meaningful path of family harmonisation.

Before we meet

How to prepare for your session

A little preparation makes the time together richer — but none of it is required to begin.

  1. Prepare a family tree beforehand with the information you already know. If you write to Iuri, he will send you a template that can help.

  2. If you already have a family tree, you can improve it in the meantime — or simply browse through it again before you meet.

  3. For an online session, choose a comfortable and peaceful environment that lets you stay relaxed.

  4. Make sure you have time available after the session is over, to reflect.

  5. Bring photos of your ancestors if you have them, together with pen and paper.

What a session is

What Mindful Genealogy is — and is not

  • We enter a special, calm atmosphere — which is already a meaningful experience in itself.
  • We analyse your family tree together (you may already have one, or we build it together).
  • We consider the weaker lines and the repeating facts or systems.
  • Iuri suggests the reflective actions you can take to continue the work: mindfulness and meditation exercises.

To be clear, a session is not:

  • It is not a psychotherapy session.
  • It is not a family constellation session.
  • It does not involve magic or spiritism.
  • It does not involve communicating with souls.
  • It is not an opportunity to gossip about families.

Mindful Genealogy is a reflective practice grounded in genealogical research. It does not replace medical or psychological care.
